What is the Hiring Process?
Each staff person participates in training that includes planning for children, safety, first aid and child development. All full time staff members are certified in CPR. Every staff person is carefully selected based on maturity, responsibility, and outstanding character qualities. The hiring process includes a detailed application, a mandatory one hour video and quiz on child abuse, reference checking, personal interview, criminal background check, and a check of the the statewide Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry.
The Training We Provide
At the beginning of each camp season, PCC SACC has a mandatory week long staff training. Training includes managing behaviors of children, emergency response procedures, activity safety procedures, leading groups, child protection standards, and more. In addition, we ask that new hires watch a few training videos before they attend the mandatory week long training. Throughout the camp season weekly staff meetings during the summer, and bi-weekly meetings in the school year.
After School Camp Counselor-
We are looking for group counselors for the 2018/2019 School Year. You would have a group of 12-14 children, from the same age range, and lead them through an afternoon of snack, homework or quiet time, group time and choice time. This position is great for the college student pursuing a career in ECE, education, or recreation, or someone interested in working with children and making a difference in their lives.
HOURS: Part-time positions: 20- 25 hours per week Monday-Friday 2 pm to 6 pm (early dismissal day Thursday 1:15-6 pm) Hours may vary slightly
Middle School Camp Counselor- (After School Camp and Swim & Gym)
Responsible for leading a group of eight middle school campers to and from field trips on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Each field trip has a purpose of education, fun, and exercise. On Tuesday, campers will participate in all activities on campus just like a leader in training. Thursday will be an on/off campus day, it will consist of activities on campus and walking off campus for various activities. Leading all these activities with a co-counselor. The job will be from 9am-5pm, but could vary on the day.
Substitute Camp Counselor- (After School Camp and Swim & Gym)
Responsible for a group of children in the absence of their regular counselor. The substitute counselor is fully qualified and has had previous experience working with a group of campers at PCC.
Full Time Swim & Gym Counselor-
Leads a group of up to 14 children around from activity to activity on the PCC campus and during Thursday field trips. Activities included but not limited to group games, swimming, snack time, outdoor games, Bible Time talks, crafts and general care of the children. Activities are pre-planned for our counselors, though is responsible for being prepared to lead the activities. Each Full-Time Counselor is partnered with a Part-Time Counselor.
Part Time Swim & Gym Counselor-
Leads a group of up to 14 children around from activity to activity on the PCC campus and during Thursday field trips. Part- Time Counselors arrive later in the morning and they watch the group when the Full-Time Counselor leaves for lunch. Each Part-Time Counselor is paired with a Full-Time Counselor.
The LIT Counselor is responsible for leading and guiding our middle school aged Leaders In Training (LIT) campers. Facilitating Monday Orientations, makes sure they are on task, handles with disciplinary issues and for takes the LITs on weekly Friday field trips where they are given evaluations.
